The Vision

Camp Bowman is a patrol cooking camp. We believe the best way to teach leadership is through the Patrol Method.

The Bowman Pizza Pavilion creates a "destination event" that challenges patrols to move beyond basic camp stoves and master the art of wood-fired cooking.

A Unique Legacy

Bowman is the only all-patrol cooking camp at the Goshen Scout Reservation.

Providing this unique cooking opportunity enhances the Scout experience by offering a higher level of culinary challenge, while remaining true to the rich history of patrol cooking at our camp.

A Multi-Purpose Asset

Designed for durability, hygiene, and versatility, this facility is built to handle the rigors of a high-traffic Scout camp.

The Brick Oven

  • High-Heat Hearth: Professional-grade brick construction for artisan results.
  • Oven Tool Suite: Includes industrial peels, brushes, and thermometers.
  • Prep Stations: Strategically placed tables for dough prep and topping assembly.

Open-Air Pavilion

  • Concrete Flooring: Poured slab for effortless hosing and rapid cleanup.
  • Minimal Electric: Integrated safety lighting for evening operations.
  • Utility Sink: For easy sanitation.

The Campfire Ring

  • All-Weather Zone: Ensures fellowship continues during inclement weather.
  • Program Continuity: Serves as the primary fallback for Campfire Hill.

Strategic Placement

The pavilion is positioned to be accessible to all campsites while remaining a distinct "destination" within the camp.

This location balances proximity to the commissary with the natural terrain of Camp Bowman.

The Operational Model

01

The Commissary

Providing ingredients and specialty supplies needed for the event.

02

The Quartermaster

Ensures safety first. Provides tool sets, and required safety and operational training for the oven.

03

The Scouts

The heart of the process: mastering the heat, enjoying the feast, and leaving the site better than they found it.

A Signature Schedule

Opening Night

AKA Beans and weenies. A great way to start the week, the staff can leverage this central area to host the arriving scouts to camp.

Troop Pizza Night

Just like Pirates Breakfast and Polar Bear Swim, one night per stay. A troop signs up to work as partols to prepare, cook, clean up, and eat pizzas of their own making.

Closing Morning

The space can be used by the final celebratory continental breakfast before the scouts depart from Camp Bowman.

Program Continuity

We ensure that the "heart of camp" never stops beating, regardless of the weather.

Weather-Proofed

Action Campfire

Rain no longer cancels the campfire or group fellowship.

Storm Safety

Shelter in Place

A designated, sturdy shelter for sudden severe weather shifts.
